ABSTRACT

Introduction: Arterial Hypertension (HTA) is the most common condition that affects the health of individuals and populations in all parts of the world. The association of HTA with the development of these lethal diseases has been demonstrated.
Objective: to determine the influence of risk factors associated with the appearance of Arterial Hypertension in patients belonging to the family doctor's office 16, Jiguaní, Granma, during the period of January - December 2018.
Method: an epidemiological, observational, analytical, prospective case-control study was carried out, with 150 patients over 15 years diagnosed with arterial hypertension belonging to the family's medical office 16. The descriptive statistics and the Odds Ratio method were used (OR) to estimate the statistical significance of the results with a 95% confidence index.
Results: it is clear that people 46 to 59 years old were 3.78 times more likely to be hypertensive; Among the modifiable factors, the associated diseases were the ones with the highest incidence (OR = 3.25). Smoking (OR = 0.79) showed no relationship with the acquisition of the disease.
Conclusions: in an order, from a greater to lesser amount, age, the associated disease and obesity are the risk factors most related to the onset of hypertension. Arterial hypertension tends to be proportional with respect to advancing age.
