Social representations on the sense of community in a group of people of the UPZ 57 gran Yomasa-Bogotá

ABSTRACT

A sense of community is defined as “a feeling members have of belonging, a sense that members matter to each other and to the group, and a shared faith that members' needs will be met through their commitment to be together ”(McMillan and Chavis, 1986 p.9); It is fundamental for community psychology and is considered as one of the central processes of this discipline, as it allows the construction of affective and social relationships between people, thus facilitating the achievement of goals and agendas in benefit of improving their quality of life. lifetime. Based on a qualitative methodology and a grounded theory research design, it was sought to identify the structure of both the central nucleus and the peripheral elements (Abric's central nucleus theory, 1976) of the social representations about the sense of community of a group of residents of UPZ 57 Gran Yomasa-Bogotá. The results determined that the central nucleus is made up of the lack of communication and interest between neighbors, which affect group integration and cohesion, leading to the absence of stable communal ties and ties. Participation has a functional dimension directed to the fulfillment of tasks related to the satisfaction of needs. Finely problematic such as the consumption of psychoactive substances, mobility problems, contamination by garbage and crime, are continuously manifested as social dynamics and are probably both generators and those that maintain the SR on CS
