ABSTRACT

Objective: To evaluate the relationship between gender and vital prognosis in patients with ARDS.
Design: Retrospective cohort study.
Setting: Medical/surgical ICU of a private affiliated-university hospital, Mexico City.
Patients: Twenty six patients (18 men, eight women) with ARDS.
Interventions: None.
Results: The mortality rate was 72% and 14% in men and women, respectively (IC 95%). Other factors associated to the mortality rate was the presence of multiple organ failure.
Conclusion: Gender and multiple organ failure are related with the mortality rate of patients with ARDS.
