ABSTRACT

With the aim of analyzing the main topics of current interest on Streptococcus pneumoniae and the vaccination challenges against this pathogen in Mexico, a virtual meeting was held with a panel of experts from the Mexican Association of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (AMIP) who worked on the topics of interest that were presented at the meeting Pearls of Pediatric Infectious Diseases 2020. This panel concluded that the main topics of interest to be reviewed and presented where the following: 1. Use and global experience of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines and their application in Mexico, 2. Pandemic of COVID-19 and its impact on vaccination in the country and 3. Immunization with 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in special situations. These topics should be part of the agenda to be included for the update of the Consensus document of the Mexican Association of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (AMIP) on the impact of vaccination in reducing the burden of pneumococcal disease in Mexico. 2018, to be held in 2021.
