ABSTRACT

Epidermoid cysts are considered benign development lesions, involving the head and neck area in 1.6% and representing 0.01% of all cysts of the oral cavity. They are characterized by asymptomatic slow growth and progressive. In order of incidence oral sites are affected: floor of mouth, tongue, lips and buccal mucosa. The EC is usually diagnosed between the ages of 15 and 50 years, with an average of 35. The incidence in men and women is 1:1, according Bataineh et al 1997 and Kandogan et al 2007, although it has been described that may appear in any decade of life according Rajendran and Sivapathasundharam in 2009. Overall the EC it is an slow growing without associated pain, difficulty chewing can condition, also phoniatric drooling. We report a case of male patient aged 67 surgically treated in the Maxillofacial Surgery Department of Hospital de Especialidades del Centro Médico Nacional Siglo XXI, who presented an increased volume in floor of mouth region of two years of evolution, denying associated symptoms. We performed CT imaging study of craniofacial simple and neck where there was a well-circumscribed hypodense area in floor of mouth, so enucleation was performed under general anesthesia injury with histopathological result of epidermoid cyst.
