ABSTRACT

The osteoma is a osteogenic benign neoplasm composed of mature bone tissue compact or well differentiated cancellous bone. Osteomas exhibit slow but steady growth and may be single or multiple lesions with size variation. The peripheral osteoma of the craniofacial region occurs most frequently in the sinuses. Other sites include the ear canal, orbit, temporal bone and pterygoid processes. It is rare in the maxilla and mandible entity, but occurs more frequently in the mandible than in the maxilla. We present the case of a 36 years old male patient who presented for consultation to the Maxillofacial Surgery Service of the Hospital General de México «Dr. Eduado Liceaga», presenting a peripheral mandibular osteoma, which is subjected to surgical treatment with satisfactory results.

Key words: Osteoma, oral cavity, bone neoplasm.
