ABSTRACT

Introduction: Eclampsia is a maternal death cause by intracerebral hemorrhage and is associated to thrombotic microangiopathy with intravascular hemolysis (MATHI), capillary leak syndrome (SFC) and multiple organic failure (FOM).
Objective: Know prevalence, complications and death cause.
Material and methods: Retrospective analysis of patients with eclampsia admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) from June 2007 to 2009. The sample was 86 patients, women records were reviewed and analyzed age, pregnancy, ICU stay days, weeks of gestation, complications and death causes.
Result: Prevalence 18.3 per cent, data average from women 21 years old, pregnancies number 1, ICU stay days 6, gestation weeks 35.6, newborn weight 2,202 g and stillbirth 5 per cent. Mortality 8 per cent, main cause intracranial hemorrhage and FOM in 100 per cent, thrombotic microangiopathy with intravascular hemolysis (MATHI) and capillary leak syndrome (SFC) 71 per cent.
Discussion: Although we don´t know the pathophysiology of intracerebral hemorrhage in eclampsia, but micro circulatory and hemorrheologic conflict show often.
Conclusion: Highlight the association of thrombotic microangiopathy with intravascular hemolysis and capillary leak syndrome with intracranial hemorrhage and multiple organ failure occurs in eclampsia.

Key words: Eclampsia, thrombotic microangiopathy with intravascular hemolysis and capillary leak syndrome.
