Management of thoraco-lumbar fractures. Comparative trial between anterior and posterior stabilization

This is a series of patients who had thoraco-lumbar unstable fractures and were classified in two groups, first group was integrated by 40 patients, aged in average 47 years, who were treated by posterior USS spine fixation system; second group consisted of 16 patients, 50 years in average who were treated by anterior Ventrofix (AO) spine stabilization system. Results demonstrated for the first group, that 23 patients (57.5%) had late loss of correction of kyphosis in relationship to the initial postoperative improvement. From 16.5 preoperative degrees remained in 14 and vertebral colapsing was reproduced. For the second group average kyphosis of 16 degrees corrected to 5 and it remained without loss of correction. Preliminary results are quite better for the Ventrofix system.
