ABSTRACT

This is a revision article dealing with diverse aspects involved in incorporation of biologic materials which are employed for grafting. Such aspects as harvesting and processing biomaterials, as well as their biological behavior while incorporation takes part are reported. Particular emphasis is made on bone and osteochondral grafts, as well as in tendon and ligament transplantation. Meniscal transplantation is specially stressed out as a result of experimental findings, which currently have failed to demonstrate biological and mechanical properties of the transplanted menisci enough to absolutely avoid knee joint arthrosis after transplantation.

Key words: meniscus, transplant, knee, surgery, graft.
