La ansiedad… ¿Un problema simbiótico?

RESUMEN
La microbiota está constituida por la simbiosis con el organismo, de bacterias,
hongos, parásitos y virus en coexistencia en forma de mutualismo o de
comensales, afectando de manera positiva o negativa la fisiología del organismo.
Los efectos de la microbiota pueden ser locales o sistémicos y pueden
ser inmunológicos, endocrinos, neurológicos e inflamatorios. Asombrosamente,
el metabolismo de la microbiota o su presencia en el intestino, puede
afectar la produción de citocinas, quimiocinas y hormonas que afectan los
sistemas neurológicos. Los efectos de la microbiota intestinal sobre el sistema
nervioso central abre la posibilidad de entender diversas enfermedades, sus
aspectos neurofisiológicos y el posible tratamiento coadyuvante con prebióticos
y probióticos en enfermedades tan complejas como la ansiedad.
