INTRODUCCIÓN

A pesar de los avances en la medicina perioperatoria, la aplicación del Patient Blood Management (PBM) en pediatría y neonatología continúa siendo inconsistente y, con frecuencia, extrapolada de la evidencia en adultos sin una adecuada adaptación a sus particularidades fisiológicas. Los niños presentan menor volumen sanguíneo, hemostasia en desarrollo y mayor susceptibilidad a pérdidas iatrogénicas, lo que incrementa su vulnerabilidad frente a la anemia y a la transfusión.
