FRAGMENTO
La inmunohematología se desarrolló a partir de
la identificación serológica de antígenos eritrocitarios
y anticuerpos. Durante más de un siglo,
la seguridad transfusional dependió de pruebas
de aglutinación y de técnicas inmunológicas que
permitieron reducir las reacciones transfusionales
y consolidar los bancos de sangre modernos.
Sin embargo, la biología molecular eritrocitaria
evidenció que la expresión antigénica es más
compleja de lo que la serología puede demostrar.
Pacientes con fenotipos aparentemente iguales
pueden presentar respuestas inmunológicas
distintas, discrepancias frente a los reactivos o variantes
difíciles de interpretar mediante métodos
convencionales.
