RESUMEN

Introducción: La osteoartrosis de la rodilla constituye una de las entidades patológicas más frecuentes en la práctica ortopédica diaria. Esta enfermedad es responsable de limitación en el estilo y calidad de vida de una gran parte de la población. Material y métodos: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y transversal en pacientes diagnosticados y tratados quirúrgicamente por osteoartrosis de la rodilla mediante artroscopía en el período comprendido de enero a junio del 2003. Tipo de estudio: Serie de casos. Resultados: Se incluyeron a un total de 53 pacientes durante el período de estudio, el sexo femenino predominó en el 66% de los pacientes. El grupo de edad con mayor incidencia fue el de 41 a 50 años (26.4%). El síntoma mayormente encontrado fue el dolor en el 98.1% de los casos. El grado de afección más frecuente según la clasificación de Outerbridge fue el III (39.6%). El tratamiento artroscópico más utilizado fue el lavado articular asociado a debridamiento en el 67.9% de los casos. Los factores que se asociaron con mal pronóstico fue la presencia de afección grado III o IV de Outerbridge (56.6%), participación bi o tricompartimental (28.3%), larga evolución de los síntomas y dolor al reposo (18.8%). Resultados buenos y excelentes se encontraron en el 77.3% de los casos. Conclusión: La cirugía artroscópica en osteoatrosis de rodilla constituye una opción terapéutica que brinda resultados halagadores; sin embargo, sus indicaciones deben ser precisas a fin de asegurar el éxito en el tratamiento.
