Férula de nivelación mandibular. Tratamiento ortopédico maxilar de microsomía hemifacial tipo I

RESUMEN

La investigación fue realizada durante dos años en el Departamento de Cirugía y Ortopedia Maxilo-facial del Hospital de Pediatría, Centro Médico Nacional Siglo XXI, Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social. Seis pacientes con diagnóstico de micro-somía hemifacial tipo I y edades de 5 a 8 años, fueron tratados con una férula de nivelación mandibular elaborada con acrílico. El aparato intraoral disminuyó la deformidad progresiva de la asime-tría facial al inhibir el aumento del hueso alveolar del lado no afectado y al estimular el crecimiento mandibular del lado afectado, la extrusión dentaria unilateral posterior y la nivelación del plano oclusal.
