RESUMEN

Con el presente estudio se pretende conocer la incidencia y frecuencia de los abscesos cervicofaciales recibidos en el Servicio de Cirugía Maxilofacial en el Centenario Hospital Miguel Hidalgo del estado de Aguascalientes desde 1997 a 2010, así como su origen, edad, sexo, lado facial más afectado y espacios faciales involucrados. Se realizó un estudio retrospectivo, observacional y analítico con revisión de expedientes clínicos, estudios de imagen radiográfica y tomográfica de los pacientes ingresados en el periodo de junio de 1997 a julio del 2010. De un total de 276, 143 fueron femeninos y 133 masculinos; en cuanto al origen, 249 resultaron odontogénicos y 27 no odontogénicos. El tratamiento para este tipo de afecciones se dio dependiendo de la severidad del mismo, siendo de forma conservadora, con manejo únicamente antimicrobiano, o con tratamiento quirúrgico complementario; en conclusión, este estudio proporciona datos básicos e importantes sobre la incidencia de procesos infecciosos cervicofaciales en el estado de Aguascalientes, ayudando con ello a complementar estudios previos y futuros.
