Granuloma periférico de células gigantes: reporte de un caso

RESUMEN

Introducción. El granuloma periférico de células gigantes (GPCG) es un nódulo extra óseo constituido por la proliferación de células gigantes multinucleadas con una vascularización prominente. Aparece sobre la encía o el reborde alveolar, es de carácter benigno y de etiología no muy bien definida. Objetivo. Rehabilitar integralmente al paciente y enriquecer mediante la práctica al proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje de la Facultad de Odontología, campus Xalapa, de la Universidad Veracruzana. Caso clínico. Una mujer de 62 años presenta tumoración de cuatro meses de evolución en el maxilar superior derecho. Mediante escisión quirúrgica se retiró la lesión y se envió al laboratorio de histopatología para su análisis. Resultado. El resultado del examen histopatológico confirma el diagnóstico presuntivo: granuloma periférico de células gigantes. Conclusión. La correcta identificación de la patología permitió establecer un plan de tratamiento apropiado y un pronóstico a largo plazo.
