Siderosis superficial del sistema nervioso central: Reporte de un caso y revisión de la literatura

RESUMEN

La siderosis superficial del sistema nervioso central es un padecimiento muy infrecuente, caracterizado por sordera, síntomas cerebelosos y signos piramidales. Este desorden es consecuencia de hemorragia subaracnoidea crónica. La resonancia magnética de encéfalo muestra de forma característica depósito marginal de hemosiderina alrededor de la superficie del sistema nervioso central en las secuencias ponderadas en T2. La forma más prometedora de tratamiento es la identificación y eliminación de la fuente de sangrado; sin embargo, una vez que la superficie del sistema nervioso central ha sido afectada de forma importante por hemosiderina, el hecho de eliminar la fuente de sangrado tendrá poco efecto en la progresión del deterioro clínico. Evitar retrasar el diagnóstico es muy importante en los casos susceptibles de tratamiento causal. Reportamos el caso de un paciente con desarrollo lento y progresivo de ataxia cerebelosa y pérdida auditiva debidos a siderosis superficial del sistema nervioso central.
