RESUMEN

La encefalopatía hepática es un desorden neuropsiquiátrico secundario a disfunción hepática en donde son varios mecanismos bioquímicos los que están involucrados. Los síntomas pueden ser variados e ir desde alteraciones en el estado de ánimo hasta coma y muerte. El diagnóstico es principalmente clínico, otros estudios son complementarios o para descartar otras causas. La corrección de los factores precipitantes junto con la terapia para disminuir los niveles de amonio se mantienen como el punto de apoyo del tratamiento.
