ABSTRACT

Hepathic encephalopathy is a neuropsychiatric disorder secondary to hepatic disfunction in which many biochemical mechanisms are involved. Symptoms can be varied, ranged from an altered mood to coma and death. Diagnosis is mainly clinical, other studies are complementary or to rule out other causes. Correction of precipitating factors along with lowering ammonia therapy remains at the cornerstone of treatment.
