RESUMEN

En México, la consulta prenatal con el pediatra es poco frecuente a pesar de las ventajas para el médico, la familia y su hijo. Permite iniciar la relación médicofamilia, obtener información médica para identificar posibles riesgos en la madre y en el recién nacido, brinda información a la familia acerca de la atención que tendrá el niño y, en caso de riesgos especiales, establecer un plan de acción con participación de los padres en las decisiones médicas. Además, permite el soporte emocional a la familia e iniciar la educación de los padres en los cuidados neonatales.
