RESUMEN

El eritema multiforme (EM) es una reacción de hipersensibilidad desencadenada por agentes infecciosos (virus del herpes simple) y medicamentos. Clínicamente se caracteriza por pápulas, pústulas, vesículas, placas urticarianas y lesiones en blanco de tiro o “diana” que predominan en codos, rodillas, palmas y plantas. Se puede clasificar en EM menor cuando el cuadro es leve, autolimitado y con un mínimo daño a mucosas y EM mayor cuando es grave, con necrosis mucocutánea extensa y tendencia a progresar al síndrome de Stevens-Johnson (SSJ). La separación entre las formas mayor y menor continúa siendo controvertida ya que algunos autores consideran a la variante mayor como sinónimo del SSJ mientras que otros los describen como dos entidades distintas.
