RESUMEN
La osteoartrosis, caracterizada por dolor, ocupa el primer lugar como trastorno invalidante en la
tercera edad. El Servicio de Ortopedia del Hospital Universitario «Arnaldo Milián Castro» y el
Servicio Científico Técnico de Medicina Regenerativa perteneciente a la Unidad de Investigaciones
Biomédicas realizaron el tratamiento integral a 401 pacientes, entre noviembre de 2013 y
diciembre de 2014. La evaluación realizada con posterioridad al implante de factores de
crecimiento plaquetarios y células mononucleares, mostró alentadores resultados: mejoría de la manifestaciones dolorosas, disminución del consumo de medicamentos y un elevado nivel de
satisfacción. El índice de masa corporal se incrementó después del implante.
