RESUMEN

La reparación valvular mitral es una alternativa que ha demostrado tener innumerables ventajas sobre el reemplazo protésico para tratar la insuficiencia mitral. A partir del 2006, la AHA/ACC recomienda la reparación valvular mitral en el paciente asintomático y sin repercusión en la función ventricular, sin hipertensión pulmonar y en ritmo sinusal, si las posibilidades de reparación valvular mitral son superiores al 90%, y la mortalidad operatoria para el centro hospitalario y cirujano involucrados es menor a 1%. Se describe aquí el primer caso de insuficiencia valvular mitral en un paciente asintomático tratada exitosamente mediante reparación valvular mitral profiláctica en el estado de Chihuahua.
