Evolución histórica de la cirugía laparoscópica

RESUMEN

En esta síntesis histórica de la cirugía laparoscópica revisamos los sucesos y las personalidades que contribuyeron para hacerla llegar hasta su estado actual, desde el interés ancestral en observar las cavidades corporales a través de orificios naturales o incisiones muy pequeñas, a la invención del endoscopio y a la integración del videoendoscopio. A manera de reconocimiento a los cirujanos pioneros que nos precedieron y cuyas contribuciones hemos aprovechado para realizar hoy cirugías extremadamente complejas con un abordaje endoscópico, incluimos una narrativa personal del cirujano que realizó la primera colecistectomía laparoscópica en México y otra del presidente fundador de la Asociación Mexicana de Cirugía Endoscópica. La revolución promovida por este «nuevo» abordaje, gracias a la inventiva y pensamiento crítico tanto de los cirujanos como de la industria en el mundo entero, se ha diseminado a casi todas las subespecialidades quirúrgicas de tal modo que seguramente los pacientes se beneficiarán de otra gran cantidad de avances quirúrgicos en el futuro a mediano y largo plazo.
