Rehabilitación oncológica del adulto mayor

RESUMEN

Los adultos mayores con cáncer de manera consistente son subtratados o tratados de forma alternativa en comparación con personas más jóvenes.
La rehabilitación en cáncer se define como las intervenciones realizadas por el equipo de rehabilitación que buscan restaurar, prevenir, compensar, identificar estructuras, funciones en riesgo, definir la funcionalidad y necesidades de rehabilitación, preparación previa al tratamiento (prehabilitación) y la educación, para maximizar el resultado funcional y la calidad de vida del paciente con diagnóstico de cáncer, así como poderle ofrecer una gama más amplia de tratamientos.
La incidencia del cáncer aumenta de manera exponencial a partir de los 65 años de edad, el 60% de los diagnósticos nuevos por cáncer y el 70% de las muertes ocurren en adultos mayores.
El presente artículo permitirá conocer el estado del arte del manejo del adulto mayor con cáncer desde el punto de vista de rehabilitación
