El acceso a la información mediante tecnologías de la comunicación ha permitido un replanteamiento de la relación médico-paciente, otorgando a este último, elementos empoderadores que lo hacen un agente activo, discursivo y decisivo, al momento de participar en el restablecimiento de la salud. El vertiginoso desarrollo de recursos y descubrimientos científicos, técnicos e informáticos ha sido tal, que el Foro Económico Mundial declaró, en 2016, el crecimiento exponencial de la tecnología digital como la “Cuarta Revolución Industrial”, situación que favorece el potencial para mejorar la calidad de vida de la población en todo el mundo.
