Knowledge in parents of children with attention deficit about this disease

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Disorder for attention deficit is one of the most frequent diseases during childhood, with difficulties in managing it by families.
Objective: To modify the knowledge about attention deficit by an educative intervention in patents of the children with this disease.
Methods: A quasi-experimental study of intervention type was carried out before and after without control group in parents with children diagnosed with attention deficit with or without hyperactivity, from ¨Marta Martínez Figuera¨, Güines, Mayabeque province, from November, 2018 to March, 2019. For the selection of the sample a probabilistic intentional sample was used, and it was formed by 20 parents. The studied variables were: knowledge about attention deficit disorder, clinical manifestations, behavior modification techniques, educative methods and treatment approaches. For processing data the docima X2 and the Duncan multiple comparison test were used.
Results: The 40 % of the parents had deficient information and knowledge about the disease during the initial phase, after the intervention was applied, the 100 % of the parents reported having the necessary knowledge about this clinical entity.
Conclusion: In the intervention an increasing of the knowledge of this disorder was evidenced. As well as in the methods and treatment approaches in the parents.
