ABSTRACT

Tropical spastic paraparesis / HTLV-1-related myelopathy is a rare cause of chronic myelopathy caused by HTLV-1 retrovirus (human T-lymphocyte lymphotropic virus).
We present the case report of a 45-year-old female patient with upper motor neuron syndrome associated with 2-year history of bladder tenesmus. In whom it was possible to document hyperintense dorsal inflammatory medullary injury (T3-T4) on MRI of spine in association with anti HTLV-1 antibodies.
