ABSTRACT

Gastroschisis is a congenital malformation, characterized by a defect in the closure of the abdominal wall. In this study, an analysis of the risk factors associated with Gastroschisis was performed. A case-control type study was carried out in patients with Gastroschisis of the Hospital Infantil del Estado de Sonora (HIES), during the period from 2008 to 2010. The variables studied were some characteristics of the mother, her socioeconomic status, as well as drug consumption before and during your pregnancy. Statistical analysis was performed using the Odds Ratio (RM) with 95% Confidence Intervals. Statistical significance was considered if P ‹0.05. One hundred and twenty files, 30 cases and 90 controls were reviewed. A significant association (P ‹0.05) of Gastroschisis was found with primiparous mothers under 20 years of age, low socioeconomic status, basic education, tobacco users, and paternal age under 20 years. The risk factors in the newborns studied are consistent with those described in the literature. However, knowledge gaps were detected that should be investigated in future studies.
