Conceptual maps. A didactic resource

ABSTRACT

Within the general theory of schemes it is included the working up of conceptual maps which are used as a didactic resource concerned to all levels of teaching learning-process, so its use at the medical schools could have great acceptance. The conceptual maps are done with nodes which are the mean ideas or concepts ordered hierarchically and linked by ways of connection. The working up of a conceptual map is preceded by a careful reading to understand the basic texts where the ideas are going to be taken and make a list of them; so they should be underlined in order to bring them out. This reading allows to understand the item to make possible to make the map. Once the list of ideas is done they should be evaluated to form the groups whom a hierarchy is going to be given according to the importance and a sequential or conventional order. This order within the groups will depend upon the importance of concepts which becomes greater when they include others less complicated. The groups of ideas are encircled to remark them to stress their importance. Once the order of concepts is established to work up the map always with the most important one at the highest hierarchy so the less important remain subdue to those with widest clasp. One gets a panorama over a specific subject; which is completed when the relations are done amongst the groups of concepts through what is called linking words. When the map is finished we’re able to read it or do a written description which shows the level of learning on the subject.
