ABSTRACT

Introduction: atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women.
Objective: to describe the global cardiovascular risk in middle aged women according to the intensity of the climacteric period and the antecedent of pre eclampsia.
Methods: a descriptive cross sectional study was carried out in 108 women aged 40 to 59 years from Santa Clara municipality , Villa Clara during 2017 2018; t he World Health Organization cardiovascular risk prediction charts was applied to them.
Results: o verweight and obesity were the risk factors with the highest presence in the sample: 81 patients (75%) followed by hypercholesterolemia (71.2%), high blood pressure (54.6%), smoking (51.8%) and diabetes mellitus (38.8%). The history of pre eclampsia appeared in all cases with moderate, high and very high cardiovascular risk. H ot flushes, night sweats and headache were t he circulatory symptoms reported by patient s with cardiovascular risk ; the referred psychological symptom was insomnia.
Conclusions: cardiovascular risk factors such as obesity, hypercholesterolemia, arterial hypertension, smoking and diabetes mellitus were found in middle aged women. The antecedent of pre eclampsia, in the last ten years, appeared in cases of increased cardiovascular risk. The intensity of the climacteric period with circulatory and psychological symptoms was shown in patients with moderate, high and very high cardiovascular risk.
