ABSTRACT

Introduction: Even after promoting several measures of prevention, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to surge with new cases and deaths being reported every day. We believe that part of this is due to incorrect adherence to prevention guidelines. Objective: Th rough a descriptive, cross-sectional study, we seek to describe the percentage diff erence between correct and incorrect use of face masks in public places in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara from November 27, 2021 to January 18, 2022. Materials and method: Th is cross-sectional, observational and descriptive study includes Guadalajara, Zapopan, Tlaquepaque, Tonalá and Tlajomulco´s population. Th e total study sample size includes 5,336 people. Results: 44% of the studied population (2,347 subjects) showed a correct use of face masks, 31% of the population (1,660 subjects) showed an incorrect use of face masks, and the rest of the observed population did not wear any type of face mask (1,329 subjects, corresponding to 25%) Conclusion: Based on the results obtained from this study, we can conclude that it is imperative to continue to enforce social distancing, proper hand hygiene, COVID-19 vaccination campaigns, reduction of capacity in public spaces, and the proper use of face masks, as they all form an important part in the prevention of infection, during this COVID-19 pandemic.
