Psychoactive substances and their effects on the oral health of Dentistry students in Havana

ABSTRACT
Introduction: addiction and associated diseases increasingly impact the health and well-being of the population of the entire world. Objective: to characterize the psychological and social factors that influence the consumption of psychoactive substances and their effects on the oral health of Stomatology students in Havana. Method: an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out, where we worked with 30 students of the Stomatology career of the Raúl González Sánchez Faculty, in Havana; in the period between September and December 2019. Descriptive statistics were used. Results: 59.2% of the surveyed students were female. The psychoactive substance with the greatest popularity was alcohol (43.3%). 53.3% of the young people surveyed started using psychoactive substance between the ages of 10 and 13. 76.7% of the sample presented a good state of oral health. Conclusions: most of the students started the consumption of psychoactive substances in early adolescence, all students are characterized by the consumption of legal drugs, mainly alcohol and tobacco, observing a predominance of good oral health in the majority of the young people surveyed.REFERENCES
