ABSTRACT

Extra-gastrointestinal stroma tumors (EGIST) belong to a group of tumors deriving from interstitial cells of Cajal, located in the soft tissues of the abdomen. This group of tumors has nonspecific clinical presentation, their diagnosis represents a real challenge, hence usually they are in advanced stage at the time of diagnosis. Their low incidence and difficult diagnosis make of EGIST a patology of controversial treatment. We present a case of a 59-year-old female patient diagnosed with EGIST at the root of the mesentery, whose only symptomatology was chronic abdominal distension.
