ABSTRACT

Objective: To perform a search of studies done at Mexican Republic with the purpose of having more information about cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome associated to arboviral outbreaks.
Methodology: A systematic review of the Guillain-Barré syndrome cohorts reported in the Mexican Republic from 2015 to 2018 was carried out, making the search in the main search engines: Web of science, Pubmed-Medline, Scopus, Google scholar, Redalyc, Science direct, Scielo and Imbiomed. The items used were: Zika, outbreak, Guillain-Barre syndrome, Mexico.
Resultados: After the systematic review, only 4 studies reported in Mexico were found, 2 corresponding to 2016, 2 to 2017 and another that included patients from 2016 to 2018. Campylobacter stood out as the main etiological agent of the syndrome in two studies, one conducted in northwest of Mexico (Ensenada, Baja California) and another in the southeast (Veracruz); the global incidence of this agent was 20%. The incidence of Zika as the causative agent of Guillain-Barré syndrome was 18%.
Conclusions: The main etiological agent of Guillain-Barre syndrome in Mexico is Campylobacter, despite the cases reported during arboviral outbreaks, highlighting the reiteration of the results in both the northwest and the southeast of the country.
