ABSTRACT

During three months (from February to April 2002), it was performed a pilot study on microbiological monitoring, at the request of primary attention and related to (in use) solutions and material which was supposed to be sterile. It was also evaluated the quality of the sterilization process by autoclave (sterilizator) employed at our consulting rooms in the Medical Center for the Family, from the districts of Marianao (26,0%), Playa (21,0%) and Lisa (27,0%) from the city of La Habana, Cuba. With a material supposed to be sterile, and according to the sample presenting the greatest positive percentage found, the district of Playa turned out to be the most conflictive one in the general sense. It is evident that it exists the need of incorporating this universe into the National Program of Infection Prevention and Control, since it demonstrated that, even though on a small scale, there are real difficulties in the manipulation and the work dynamics when assisting the patients at this level of health.
