ABSTRACT

The spontaneous coronary dissection is an important cause of acute coronary syndrome in young people, mainly women without cardiovascular risk factors, with a high recurrence rate and impact on quality of life. We report the clinical case of a 55-year-old woman who presented to the emergency department with chest pain. During the diagnostic approach, a diagnostic coronary angiography was performed, which concluded a spontaneous coronary dissection of the circumflex artery, meriting conservative medical management and surveillance. Spontaneous coronary dissection is a pathophysiologically different entity from the atherosclerotic cause as a cause of myocardial infarction, little recognized and that implies important differences in diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and prognosis.
