ABSTRACT

Stress is a word introduced in 1949 by Hans Selye. It is catalogated as one of the poblems of health more frequent in the actual population. Stress is developed in three phases: warning, resistance and exhaustion. It is conditioned by vegetatives, immunologics and hormonals mechamisms controlled by hipophysis.
Some life phases in women produced stress much as menstruation, gestation, puerperium, menopause and climaterium; their effects can be manifested in psychologic, physic and laboral areas.
Te general objectives of the present revision is to know the factors that cause stress, its action mechanism during the pregnancy. Stress in this phase is caused by the fear to inminent childbirth and the probabilities of danger of the mother and her child. Many of the anguish and fear is the cause of the cultural tradition which can be increased by the tension that produces the stomatology practice. For all this, the odontologist must know and inform about his patients an how to incorporated the best stomatology attention in pregnancy and its alternatives.
