ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has created several challenges for medical and surgical departments around the world. We aimed to outline how we faced the impact of COVID-19 in our education, training, clinical practice, and clinical research programs. Residents were rescheduled in a novelty on-call program. Clinical practice, hospital admissions, and surgical attendance were significantly affected, decreasing by 77.0, 39.7 and 24.2%, respectively, compared to the same period last year. The clinical research protocols were modified, the trials were redesigned, the sample size was adjusted, or even another research protocol was assigned. Although these measures are not definitive and are subject to changes and modifications for the better, we believe that it is important to share the actions that each hospital adopts according to their specific circumstances and share their experience, as they can potentially benefit other institutions.
