ABSTRACT
Introduction: The clinical characteristics of the face in a newborn children are important in detection of growth alterations.
Objectives: To describe the facial characteristics of healthy newborn children.
Material and methods: The facial characteristics were determined with a metallic Vernier calibrated in millimeters. The sample was selected among newborn children on term in Instituto Nacional de Perinatología, Mexico.
Results: 573 neonates were evaluated, these were divided into three groups according to their trophicity, it was observed that the values of each group were similar in their specific values showing very low variation.
It was found statistically significant differences between the groups in 18 variables, with the exception of the nasion -chin, the nasal base of the nose, the length of the external ear and the bizygomatic.
Discussion: The results showed that trophicity influences the facial characteristics (p ‹ .0001).
