ABSTRACT

Cerebral sinus venous thrombosis is a cerebrovascular disease with a low incidence and multifactorial etiology in the pediatric age. It is a rare pediatric emergency; clinical suspicion of this problem should be considered in any child presenting with seizures, acute manifestations of hypertensive skull and fully established risk factors. We present a case of a 1-month-old infant hospitalized for generalized tonic-clonic seizures and a clinical picture of endocranial hypertension documented by transcranial Doppler ultrasound. Cranial CT and MRI showed thrombosis of the sagittal and transverse venous sinuses. He received treatment for endocranial hypertension with osmotherapy, barbiturate, sedation and continuous analgesia. For venous thrombosis he was treated with enoxaparin, evolving favorably.
