Systemic lupus erythematosus, Acute myelitis.

ABSTRACT

Background: The neurological involvement of systemic lupus erythematosus encompasses 19 clinical syndromes, within which acute myelitis is one of the most infrequent (1-2%). The diagnosis is complex since it is necessary to determine if the manifestation is due to the activity of systemic lupus erythematosus or is a consequence of infections, adverse reactions to treatments or other systemic diseases. High clinical suspicion and early treatment is essential since the delay in it can lead to irreversible consequences.
Clinical case: A 41-year-old female patient, with a previous diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus, and 3 years later, manifested myelopathy.
Conclusions: This case illustrates the diagnostic difficulty of neurological involvement of systemic lupus erythematosus and the associated morbidity and mortality that entails.
