ABSTRACT

Background: Histoplasmosis is an opportunistic fungal infection caused by Histoplasma capsulatum; 90% of cases occur in immunosuppressed patients.
Clinical case: A 31-year-old male patient, HIV positive, who was diagnosed with disseminated histoplasmosis.
Conclusions: Histoplasma infection is endemic in our environment and, therefore, should be suspected in new cases of HIV infection with non-specific systemic symptoms.
