SARS-COV-2 and the impact on posttraumatic stress: a psychology reflection

ABSTRACT

After the emergence of SARS-COV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) in the city of Wuhan-China in December 2019, the world changed dramatically, due to these factors: the extremely rapid spread of this virus to other countries , prolonged confinement, massive layoffs from workplaces, uncertainty of information and vaccination alternatives, the impact on the economy and current spending, inaccessibility to health services, the death of close relatives, the infection of a virus unknown, among many other factors, have generated an affectation that affects mental health. These ailments have affected people all over the world, where depression, anxiety and more recently post-traumatic stress stand out; However, since 2020 a series of scientific documents began to address the alternatives in terms of mental health derived from the emergence of SARS-COV-2. In this vein, the central purpose of this document is to carry out a theoretical review of those findings with reference to the exposed subject and to reflect on the scope of psychological science in the face of the pandemic popularly called COVID-19.
