ABSTRACT

Objective: This study proposed to compare the level of Burnout of nursing personnel who worked in the Covid and non-COVID area of a second level public hospital; Material and methods: This was a comparative analytical cross-sectional study, the sample consisted of 96 male and female nurses from a second level care hospital in the city of San Luis Potosí, Mexico, from internal medicine and emergency services. The subjects were grouped into: a) nurses from the COVID area; b) Nurses who were not assigned to COVID areas. The presence of burnout in the nursing staff of both groups was compared and various variables of interest were analyzed; The project was developed in the months of June and July 2022. Results: significant differences were found in the levels of burnout between the personnel who cared for patients with a diagnosis of covid and those who did not (p=0.028) as well as in the average score obtained in the instrument by service area, emergency and internal medicine (p= 0.007). Conclusions: The study allows us to point out that the presence of burnout is related to the experience in caring for patients with a diagnosis of covid-19 and the service in which it works.
