ABSTRACT

Cementoblastoma is a benign odontogenic tumor of mesenchymal origin, which usually presents as a slow-growing and well-circumscribed enlargement. Sometimes it is identified by imaging serendipity. Clinically it can present as an isolated entity, associated with the root of a dental organ (true cementoblastoma) or associated with an autosomal dominant inheritance pattern, in coalescence with some other fibro-osseous lesions (familial gigantiform cementoblastoma), which represents an even rarer pathologic entity in frequency. The clinical and imaging characteristics of cementoblastoma can be similar to those presented by malignant lesions, therefore, it is important to take an incisional biopsy in order to establish a diagnosis and to carry out the appropriate therapy. We present a clinical case of cementoblastoma, highlighting its clinical, imaging and histological characteristics and its follow-up, emphasizing the role of communication between the physician, the dental surgeon and specialists in oral pathology and maxillofacial surgery.
