ABSTRACT

Introduction: vein of Galen aneurysmal malformation (VOGM) is a low-frequency congenital anomaly, but with high lethality. Objective: we present a neonate with VOGM type II. Clinical case: male newborn with prenatal diagnosis by fetal sonography of VOGM. He was born at 37 weeks of gestation. He suffered intraventricular hemorrhage and hydrocephalus in the neonatal period. At two months of age, endovascular embolization was performed; However, he died at five months of age due to thrombosis of the superior longitudinal sinus, massive cerebral hemorrhage, and intracranial hypertension. Conclusions: patients with VOGM have a high risk of dying; early detection may improve their prognosis.
