I was born and raised in Monterrey, northeastern Mexico, where I received my medical training as a general physician at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL). Subsequently, I specialized in Internal Medicine with a subspeciality in Clinical Neurology at the “Dr. José Eleuterio González” University Hospital, also affiliated with UANL.
My choice of specialties was significantly influenced by the Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle. In medical school, after reading the entire Holmesian Canon, I became fascinated by the reasoning powers of the Baker Street Sleuth. This fascination steered me towards a career in internal medicine. Later, during my residency in internal medicine, I came across an article on Brain presenting the similarities between Holmes and William Gowers, which convinced me of becoming a neurologist. Upon completing my medical training in 2020, I received an invitation to join the Neurology Service at the University Hospital as an Associate Professor, where I became a Level I member of the National Researcher’s System (Sistema Nacional de Investigadores, SNI).
