ABSTRACT

Objectives: To describe the clinical characteristics of patients affected by antrochoanal polyps, to evaluate recurrence and surgical treatment and to provide information to improve the understanding of this disease.
Materials and Methods: An observational, retrospective, descriptive study was carried out by reviewing the electronic clinical records of patients with antrochoanal polyp and who underwent a surgical procedure as treatment for this disease at the Culiacan Civil Hospital from January 2013 to September 2022. Demographic and clinical variables were collected.
Results: Twenty-two patients were identified, 11 men and 11 women. A recurrence was found in two patients. Three patients had previous sinonasal surgery. Twenty-one patients had maxilar antrochoanal polyp, one patient had sphenochoanal polyps. Endoscopic maxillary antrostomy was the most widely used procedure.
Conclusions: The antrochoanal polyp continues to be a disease that generates debate regarding its best surgical procedure treatment. An adequate report of cases is needed to continue elucidating this illness.
