ABSTRACT

Ventricular septal defect (VSD) as a mechanical post-infarction complication has an incidence of 0.8-6.2%. The association of post-acute myocardial infarction (AMI) VSD and the development of endocarditis has not been clearly established. We present the case of a 57-year-old male with a history of ischemic heart disease, who presented post-AMI VSD, and subsequent development of endocarditis and severe mitral regurgitation as an added pathology, being an extremely rare case.
